The Beauty of… Timaru?

The truth about Timaru!
Captured by the wonderful Natalie Price, who was kind – and brave – enough to let me publish this masterpiece. Thanks a lot!
Please let me re-emphasise that most of the photos presented on this blog aren’t indicative for the photographic abilities of their authors ;)

The Beauty of Snow and Pink Limos in Timaru

Ladies and gentlemen, prepare for fireworks of Uglynewzealandism over the next days and weeks! Kicked off by this superb shot by the fabulous Shannon Stevenson, accompanied by a mind-boggling guest post by Alex Gilks aka The Voice of the South:
When the blanket of sudden winter snow melts a bit, and gets all gritty and sullied around the edges with brown and grey tyre juice, that’s when the folks of Timaru do what they do best: load up in a big ol’ 1980s Ford LTD style stretched limo, and head out to the main to cruise the mush, like a dirty big pink shark, looking to raise some hell.

Borg Mall 3 – The Tomb of Doom

I have a hunch that Rachel Tallon isn’t entirely happy with the Westfield mall shopping center in Lower Hutt:
“A monstrosity that suddenly appeared in my home town a few years ago. Shaped like a Borg ship, with as much character, this imposing monolithic structure stands as a windowless monument to consumerism. (…)
Dull grey boxes plonked on top of a stress-inducing carpark, this rectangular tomb of doom to your credit card is now the heart of my town.”
But hey, just a hunch. Don’t miss the other instalments of the series:

The Beauty of Corrugated Handrails

What a gem! Note the corresponding car in the background, too.
(I’ve boosted the exposure a tad bit for your viewing pleasure. The original photo complies even better with our code of photographic conduct.)

The Beauty of Wai-O-Tapu

Champagne pool detail, Wai-O-Tapu.
But wait, there’s more! When in the “Thermal Wonderland” Wai-O-Tapu, don’t miss “the opportunity to visit what is locally known as the Mud Pool. It now represents one of the best opportunities to experience the unique character and sounds of erupting mud in New Zealand…”
In case that was what you were looking for.

The Beauty of Swine, next to Cars

And while we are at it, my little possums, let’s also publish this splendiferous shot by the magnificient Travelling Light.

The Beauty of Fishy Obelisks

An anonymous reader sent us this shot of yet another shocking piece of public art, this time in Kaiapoi. It even withstood the might of the irritated earth gods:
“A large faultline ruptured only metres from this creation and failed to move this monster! Perhaps it even caused it?”

The car! The hut*! The fridge! The gravel! Corrugated Steel! The colors! – ’Tis Kiwi heaven!
(* I know, I know, my mistake: “historic 3 bedroom villa with flexible floor plan”).

The Beauty of Drive-In Dry Cleaning

Sadly, most drive-ins turn out to be mere drive-bys. I am still waiting for a version where I don’t have to leave the car at all. Same applies to supermarkets and gyms, by the way.
Another masterpiece by Travelling Light, and it most definitely won’t be the last.
