Blenheim’s Beauty, Part II: Happy Beavers

Beavers - RK

Nom-nom! A tremendously complex shot by the mysterious RK. Note how RK chose a perspective avoiding face-to-face confrontrations with the little critters, thus preserving the full creature privacy. Also note the screws mounting the  statuette on the wodden pedestal. Ingenious!

The Beauty of Lake Taupo

Jenny M - Lake Taupo

Jenny M. of the lovely german New Zealand Travel blog weltwunderer.de sends this wonderful shot of Lake Taupo. With some stuff in the foreground. I have no idea why anybody would consider this being ugly, given that the picture elements, composition, light and colours work beautifully together with the bacchanalia subtext (alcohol, shadow, plastic bag, the jungle)… – but hey, what do I know.

The Beauty of Clippy’s Exile

A giant knot - Robyn Gallagher

Obscure secrets of the Microsoft Corporation, Part 14563: soon after the infamous MS Office help Clippy started drinking and, a bit later, to smoke crack with the Thesaurus, it was deported to a penal colony named New Zealand. There it fades away, deformed and deranged, in front of a ministry, cynically titled Department of Conservation. It’s a mad, mad world!

The Beauty of Kiwi Playgrounds

Ettrick Playground - Gareth Bedford

A playground! Kiwi-style! Thanks to our contributor Gareth Bedford for this masterpiece. He writes: “I remember it was 1995 when I first saw this playground, the centre-piece of the Ettrick childrens entertainment complex, situated right next door to the takeaways shop. It seriously has changed little since then. Maybe faded a bit.”
