Part 2 of the collection: “Best of Ugly New Zealand Edition South Island (BOUNZESI)”. Have a lovely weekend, y’all, while deciding if the South or the North wins. For me, it’s clear as Lake Wakatipu.

The Beauty of Frog Rock

Prog frog around the clock! Frog Rock, Weka Pass Railway. We are getting dangerously close to postcard beauty here. Must find uglier stuff, must find uglier stuff…

The Beauty of Wakefield. In 1989

The car! The hut*! The fridge! The gravel! Corrugated Steel! The colors! – ’Tis Kiwi heaven!
(* I know, I know, my mistake: “historic 3 bedroom villa with flexible floor plan”).

The Beauty of Foxy Glaciers

Glacier: foxy. Signposts: tilted. Background: foggy. Sigh, New Zealand, sigh…
Great shot by Grant Dommen, though! As always! Thanks!

The Beauty of Party Ice. Wait… what?!

Tim Grubb, the mastermind behind the refreshingly intelligent blog “Tourism Trends”, sent us this somewhat bizarre shot, combining many all-time Kiwi favourites. Namely gravel, neon paint, gas-guzzling cars… – and don’t get me started on the driving skills. Thanks, Tim!

The Beauty of White Island

Another guest post by the titillating Alex Gilks:
No, not the a snapshot of a Hutt Valley industrial estate – this is White Island, the site of NZ’s first full-scale World War II bombed buildings diorama.
Weta Workshops tested many natural pigments before settling on the exact hue for mustard gas residue.

More of Hardgore’s Beauty

Our return to Gore, to cineasts also known as Splattertown and Slasherville. More from there very soon…

Can anybody spot the exact location?
The Beauty of Puke

Gotcha! Still 6 kilometers to go, though. Another fine example of 1 YSL’s “why leave the vehicle when it also can by done in 5th gear” photography. Note also the delicately interwoven gravel …

The Beauty of Wellington

Meanwhile, a perfectly normal day in the capitol Wellington: gravel, graffiti, a potty chair… wait, what?!?
